Capstone

This is a project about presenting information in a more engaging way to potential college recruits and incoming freshman interested in becoming a walk-on (an athlete that’s not on a scholarship) on a college sports team. More specifically it if for recruits who don’t live in close proximity and would like to get informed about a sports program. I chose the Elon Women’s Basketball Team as the subject matter for this platform. The platform is a site that allows users to navigate through several pages of content that present different types of information in a way that engages the user.

When I first set out to create this project my goal was to produce “a day in the life” interactive documentary from the point-of-view of the ladies on the team. I wanted to give potential recruits and any other viewers an in-depth look at what life is like as a women’s basketball player at Elon University. The goal was to highlight what a routine day looks like; from classes, practices and game days to injury and campus organization meetings.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic the end of the season was cut short, athletes were sent home and I was unable to execute the project the way I had originally planned. This challenged me to pivot from the original idea I had envisioned and approach the underlying purpose for this project from a different angle. From this point on the project morphed into what it currently is now, which allowed me to have a different perspective on what a finished product would like. I feel that I still met my overall goals by approaching from the angle of an interactive site rather than a full documentary.
